Use this interactive demo to learn how to duplicate and customize a Buffer post for different channels.

Quick summary

Buffer's post variation feature lets you duplicate an existing post and tailor it for a different social channel without starting from scratch. In just a few clicks, you can edit the caption, swap the image, and add the variation to your queue or save it as a draft.

Steps

  1. Inside Buffer's Publish tab, find the post you want to reuse and click its More Actions button.
  2. Choose Duplicate from the list of options that appears.
  3. Select the channel where you want to publish the new variation.
  4. In the text field, make your edits — update the caption, change the format, or swap the image.
  5. Review the post, then click Add to Queue or Save As Draft.
  6. The post variation is now saved to your account. Repeat the same steps to create additional variations.

📌 Why this matters

Creating post variations in Buffer allows social media managers to repurpose high-performing content across multiple channels without duplicating manual effort. Instead of rewriting posts from scratch, users can duplicate any queued post, tailor the copy and visuals for each platform, and schedule everything directly from one dashboard. This workflow is essential for teams managing multi-channel social strategies, enabling consistent messaging with platform-specific customization. Buffer's duplicate-and-edit approach saves significant time while keeping content queues active and on-brand across every connected channel.
