Use this interactive demo to learn how to build a reusable template button in Notion.

Quick summary

Notion's template button lets you insert reusable blocks — like calendars, checklists, and task layouts — into any page with a single click. Setting one up takes under two minutes using the /template slash command and the block action menu.

Steps

  1. Click on a blank area inside the Notion page editor to place your cursor.
  2. Type /template to open the block command menu.
  3. Click Button from the dropdown menu to insert a template button block.
  4. Name your button, such as New Weekly Calendar or New Task Template.
  5. Under the button action, click New action.
  6. In the action menu, click Insert blocks.
  7. Add the content you want to reuse — such as headings, checklists, tables, calendar sections, or task details — inside the template area.
  8. Repeat the same process to add more blocks to your template.
  9. Click Done at the bottom of the settings panel to save the template.
  10. Click your template button to test it and insert the blocks into your Notion page.
  11. Your Notion template is now ready to reuse whenever you need the same layout or content again.

📌 Why this matters

Notion's template button feature eliminates repetitive manual work by letting teams create one-click reusable block layouts inside any page. Instead of rebuilding weekly calendars, task trackers, or content briefs from scratch, users can define the structure once and insert it instantly. This makes Notion a more powerful productivity and project management tool for teams that rely on consistent page structures. For anyone managing recurring workflows in Notion, template buttons are a fundamental time-saving feature.
