Use this interactive demo to learn how to create a private app in HubSpot.

‍

Creating a private app in HubSpot allows you to securely connect external tools to your account using API access and custom permissions.

  1. Log in to your HubSpot account and navigate to your main dashboard.
  2. Head to Settings to configure your integrations.
  3. On the left side panel, click on Integrations, and select "Private Apps" from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click "Go to Legacy Apps" to access older app configurations.
  5. Hit "Create legacy app" to start building your integration.
  6. Choose "Private" as your app type for secure access.
  7. Enter details by adding your app name, logo (optional), and description.
  8. Open Scopes tab and click Add scope to assign permissions.
  9. Select scopes based on what data your app needs to access, then click Update.
  10. Click "Create app" to finalize your integration setup.
  11. Confirm access by reviewing permissions and clicking Continue creating.‍
  12. You’re all set—your private app is now created and ready to use.

📌 Why this matters

Creating a private app lets you build custom integrations that pull HubSpot data into your own systems, automate workflows between platforms, or create specialized dashboards for your team. Unlike public marketplace apps, private apps give you granular control over exactly which data points and operations your integration can access. This means you can build lightweight, purpose-built connections that sync only the contact fields, deal properties, or campaign metrics you actually need, without the bloat or monthly fees of third-party solutions.
