How To Create A Flow Chart In Confluence

Use this interactive demo to learn how to build a flow chart inside a Confluence page.

Quick summary

You can create a flow chart in Confluence by using the built-in diagram tool triggered with the /diagram slash command, then selecting a flowchart template or building one manually with shapes and connectors. Once saved, the flowchart is automatically embedded into your Confluence page without any additional steps.

Steps

  1. Open your Confluence page in edit mode to get started.
  2. Type /diagram in the page editor and select "Create a diagram" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click "Template" to start from a preset layout, or add shapes and connectors manually to build a custom flowchart.
  4. Search for "Flow chart" in the template library and click on it to select it.
  5. Drag and drop flowchart shapes — such as decision and process nodes — onto the canvas and insert your text.
  6. Finish editing and the flowchart will be automatically inserted into your Confluence page.

📌 Why this matters

Creating flow charts directly inside Confluence keeps process documentation in the same workspace where your team already collaborates, eliminating the need for separate diagramming tools. The native diagram editor supports ready-made flowchart templates as well as fully custom shapes and connectors, so teams can map out workflows, decision trees, and processes in minutes. Embedding diagrams directly into Confluence pages ensures that visual process documentation stays version-controlled, searchable, and accessible to every stakeholder without leaving the platform.
