Utilize this interactive demo to guide you through the process of creating a book in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to create a book in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To create a book in Adobe InDesign, go to the top menu and click ‘File.’
  2. From the menu, select ‘New’ → ‘Book’ to create a new book and open the Books panel.
  3. Rename your book and click ‘Save’ to continue.
  4. Once the panel opens, click the ‘+’ icon at the bottom of the panel to add the documents you want to include in the book.
  5. Once the file location opens, select the documents you want to import and click ‘Open.’

📌 Why this matters

Creating a book structure lets you manage multi-chapter projects like novels, manuals, or reports as connected documents rather than isolated files. You can automatically synchronize formatting, styles, and master pages across all chapters, ensuring visual consistency without manually updating each file.

The book feature also generates continuous page numbering across documents and creates unified tables of contents or indexes that span the entire publication. This approach transforms what would be a tedious manual process into an automated workflow, especially valuable when collaborating with multiple writers or when chapters need frequent revisions.
