Use this interactive demo to learn how to repurpose a YouTube Short as an Instagram Reel.

Quick summary

This demo walks you through how to download a YouTube Short from YouTube Studio and upload it as an Instagram Reel in just a few steps. It covers everything from finding your Short in YouTube Studio to hitting Share on Instagram.

Steps

  1. Go to studio.youtube.com, navigate to Content, and find the YouTube Short you want to repurpose as a Reel.
  2. Click the three-dot More button below the video and select Download to save it to your device.
  3. Open Instagram and click the + Create button, then select Post from the content type options.
  4. Click Select from computer to choose the downloaded YouTube Short from your device.
  5. Ensure your video is in vertical format (9:16) before uploading for best results, then click Next.
  6. Trim the clip if needed, add captions, music, or effects, then click Next.
  7. Write your caption, add hashtags, and tap Share to publish the Reel.

📌 Why this matters

Repurposing YouTube Shorts as Instagram Reels lets creators maximize the reach of existing short-form video content without re-recording anything. Since both platforms favor vertical 9:16 video, a single piece of content can drive engagement across two major audiences simultaneously. This cross-platform video strategy saves production time while expanding discoverability on Instagram's Reels feed. For content creators and brands, it is one of the most efficient ways to grow followers and views with minimal extra effort.
