Use this interactive demo to learn how to find a user's license type in Salesforce Setup.

Quick summary

To check a user license in Salesforce, navigate to Setup via the gear icon, search for Users in the Quick Find box, open a user record, and locate the User License field. This five-step process works in any Salesforce org and lets admins instantly verify license assignments per user.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon at the top-right of your Salesforce dashboard to open the settings menu.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup from the dropdown to enter the Setup panel.
  3. In the Quick Find search box, type and select Users to navigate to the Users list.
  4. Select a user from the list to open their individual profile record.
  5. Look for the User License field on the user's profile to view their assigned license type.

📌 Why this matters

Knowing how to check a user license in Salesforce is essential for administrators managing access, compliance, and cost control across an org. Each Salesforce license type determines which features and data a user can access, making it critical to verify assignments when troubleshooting permissions or onboarding new team members. Incorrect license assignments can lead to access errors or unnecessary subscription costs. This demo gives Salesforce admins a fast, repeatable way to audit user licenses directly from Setup.
