Use this interactive demo to learn how to audit object-level permissions in Salesforce via Permission Sets.

Quick summary

Object access in Salesforce controls what data users can read, create, edit, or delete — and is managed through Permission Sets in Advanced Setup. Checking object-level permissions helps admins enforce least-privilege access and maintain data security compliance.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon at the top-right of your Salesforce dashboard to open the Settings menu.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup from the dropdown to enter the Setup console.
  3. In the Quick Find search box, type and select Permission Sets to navigate to the Permission Sets list.
  4. Select a permission set from the list to open its detail page.
  5. In the Apps section, click Object Settings to view object-level access for that permission set.
  6. Select the object whose permissions you want to inspect.
  7. Review the object permissions, including read, create, edit, delete, view all, and modify all access levels.

📌 Why this matters

Understanding how to check object access in Salesforce is essential for any admin managing data security and user permissions. Salesforce Permission Sets let you grant granular, object-level access without modifying profiles, making it easier to enforce least-privilege principles. By navigating to Object Settings within a Permission Set, admins can instantly audit exactly what a user group can read, create, edit, or delete on any given object. This capability is critical for compliance audits, onboarding new roles, and preventing unauthorized data exposure in enterprise Salesforce orgs.
