Use this interactive demo to learn how to update Forecast Category picklist values in Salesforce.

Quick summary

To change a Forecast Category in Salesforce, admins navigate through Setup to the Opportunity object's Fields & Relationships, locate the Forecast Category picklist, and edit individual values directly. This process requires no code and takes effect immediately across all Opportunity records.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon in the top-right of the dashboard to open Setup.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click Object Manager in the top-left menu of the Setup page.
  4. Scroll down and select the Opportunity object.
  5. Click Fields & Relationships in the left-hand sidebar.
  6. Scroll down and select the Forecast Category field.
  7. Scroll down to the Forecast Category picklist values and click Edit next to the value you want to change.
  8. Enter a new name in the Label field to update the category name.
  9. Click Save to apply the changes.

📌 Why this matters

Salesforce Forecast Categories directly control how opportunities are grouped and weighted in revenue forecasts, making accurate picklist values critical for sales planning. Misconfigured or outdated category labels can cause forecast reports to misrepresent pipeline health, leading to poor business decisions. This demo shows Salesforce admins exactly how to rename and update Forecast Category picklist values through the Object Manager without requiring developer support. Keeping these values aligned with your sales process ensures your forecasting data stays accurate and actionable.
