Use this interactive demo to learn how to attach alt text to images when creating a post in Buffer.

Quick summary

Buffer's alt text feature lets you add descriptive, accessibility-friendly captions to images directly inside the post editor before publishing to any connected social media channel. This ensures your social content meets accessibility standards and reaches a wider audience, including users who rely on screen readers.

Steps

  1. Click on the Channels tab and choose a social media account.
  2. Click New Post to open the post editor.
  3. Click the image icon or drag and drop an image into the post editor.
  4. Hover over the image and click Alt to open the alt text field.
  5. Enter a brief, descriptive alt text for accessibility, then click Save.
  6. Click the dropdown arrow next to Add to Queue to reveal additional scheduling options.
  7. Click Share Now, Share Next, or Schedule Post to publish your post.

📌 Why this matters

Adding alt text to social media images is a key accessibility requirement that ensures content is inclusive for users relying on screen readers or viewing images with slow connections. Buffer's built-in alt text feature lets social media managers write and save descriptive image captions directly inside the post editor, without switching tools. This makes it easier for teams to meet accessibility compliance standards while scheduling and publishing content across multiple channels. For brands prioritizing inclusive social media marketing, Buffer's alt text support streamlines an often-overlooked but essential step in the content creation workflow.
