Use this interactive demo to learn how to enable and verify API access in your Salesforce org.

Quick summary

To access the Salesforce API, administrators must navigate to Advanced Setup, locate a user profile, and confirm the API Enabled permission is checked under Administrative Permissions. This process ensures the correct profile permissions are granted before any API integration can function.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon at the top menu of the dashboard to open setup options.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup from the dropdown menu.
  3. Choose a profile and click Edit next to it.
  4. Scroll down to Administrative Permissions to view the available API settings.
  5. Scroll further and locate API Enabled to confirm the checkbox is checked or activated.
  6. Scroll to the bottom and click Save to apply your changes.

📌 Why this matters

Enabling the Salesforce API is a foundational step for any team looking to integrate third-party tools, automate workflows, or build custom applications on top of Salesforce data. Without the API Enabled permission set at the profile level, users and connected apps cannot authenticate or exchange data with Salesforce. This demo matters because misconfigured API permissions are a leading cause of failed integrations, and knowing exactly where to find and activate this setting saves administrators significant troubleshooting time. Getting API access right from the start unlocks the full power of the Salesforce platform ecosystem.
