Use this interactive demo to learn how to let anyone upload files to your Dropbox using File Requests.

Quick summary

Dropbox File Requests let you collect files from anyone — even people without a Dropbox account — by sharing a simple upload link. This feature is ideal for gathering submissions, assets, or documents directly into a designated Dropbox folder without granting full account access.

Steps

  1. Go to www.dropbox.com and log in to your account.
  2. Select "File requests" from the left-hand menu.
  3. Click "New request" to start creating a file request.
  4. Set up your file request by entering the required fields such as a title or description.
  5. Choose the destination folder by clicking "Change folder."
  6. Select the specific Dropbox folder where uploaded files will be saved and click "Choose folder."
  7. Once all details are confirmed, click "Create" to generate the request.
  8. Click "Copy link" to share the upload link, or send directly via email by entering the recipient's address.
  9. Click "Share" to send the file request to your recipients.
  10. Recipients can now upload files to your Dropbox using File Requests without needing a Dropbox account.

📌 Why this matters

Dropbox File Requests solve a common collaboration problem: collecting files from clients, partners, or team members who don't have a Dropbox account. Instead of sharing full folder access or chasing email attachments, you can generate a secure upload link that routes files directly into a designated Dropbox folder. This keeps your storage organized, your data secure, and your workflow friction-free. It's an essential feature for freelancers, agencies, and teams who regularly need to gather assets or submissions from external contributors.
