Cursor Rules use the .mdc format to combine configuration and instructions. The most effective rules are specific and use examples to show the AI exactly how you want your code to look.
- Open the Cursor application on your computer.
- Click File from the toolbar, and select Preferences.
- Select Cursor Settings from the submenu.
- Click on the Rules, Skills, Subagents tab in the sidebar of the settings window.
- Click on the +New button, and select User Rules.
- Type a Name and a brief Description for your rule to help the AI understand when it should be active.
- Click Enter on your keyboard, and you're all set!
