Quick summary
Verifying Google Search Console confirms your website ownership so Google can share search performance data with you. This demo walks through two verification methods — uploading an HTML file and adding an HTML tag — for both domain and URL prefix property types.
Steps
- Add a new website property to Search Console to begin the verification process.
- When prompted, select a property type — either Domain or URL prefix.
- If using the Domain option, verify your website ownership via DNS.
- If using the URL prefix option, choose from four available verification methods.
- For the recommended method, proceed with uploading an HTML file to verify your URL prefix property.
- Download the HTML verification file and upload it to the root directory of your website.
- Click Verify to complete the verification process.
- If you don't have server access, you can alternatively verify using an HTML tag.
- Copy the provided tag and insert it inside the <head> section of your website's homepage to complete verification.
