Use this interactive demo to learn how to generate and configure a Coda API token for custom integrations.

Quick summary

Coda's API token feature lets you connect your Coda workspace to external apps and tools by generating a secure, named key directly from Account Settings. Once generated, you can apply access restrictions and copy the token to authenticate any supported custom integration.

Steps

  1. On Coda's main dashboard, head to the top-right corner and click your Profile icon.
  2. Choose Account Settings from the dropdown list of options.
  3. Scroll down to the API Settings section and click Generate API Token.
  4. Enter a unique API Token name into the provided input field.
  5. Optionally, tap Add a Restriction to specify the scope of your API access and set parameters.
  6. Click Generate API Token to confirm and create the token.
  7. Tap Copy Token and save the key securely for future use.
  8. Your new Coda API Token is now active — use it to connect Coda with any app that supports this integration structure.

📌 Why this matters

Coda's API token system gives developers and power users a straightforward way to authenticate custom integrations without complex OAuth flows. By generating a named, optionally restricted API token directly from Account Settings, teams can securely connect Coda docs to third-party tools, automation platforms, and internal workflows. This flexibility makes Coda a central hub for data-driven operations, enabling real-time syncing and programmatic access across your entire tech stack. For businesses looking to extend Coda beyond its native features, the API is the key to building scalable, custom solutions.
