How to Turn Off AI in Replit

Use this interactive demo to learn how to turn off AI in Replit.

‍

This tutorial shows how to disable AI code suggestions and autocompletion in Replit to give you full manual control over your editor.

Notes:

  • This only disables AI code completion and suggestions in the editor. Replit itself runs on AI infrastructure, so this setting does not remove the Agent or other AI-powered features entirely.
  • To reduce Agent activity instead of disabling it, switch to Lite mode by clicking the lightning bolt (⚡) icon in the Agent tab.
  1. Sign in at replit.com and go to your main screen.
  2. Click the Settings icon at the bottom of the sidebar.
  3. In Settings, click Personalization.
  4. Open the Code Editing section.
  5. Find the Code Intelligence toggle and switch it off. AI code suggestions and autocompletion are now disabled in your editor.

📌 Why this matters

Disabling AI suggestions lets you code without interruptions when you're learning fundamentals, debugging complex logic, or working through coding challenges where hints would defeat the purpose. You'll also avoid the cognitive overhead of constantly evaluating whether AI suggestions are helpful or misleading. This becomes especially valuable during technical interviews or when you need to demonstrate your actual coding abilities. Many developers find they write more intentional code when they're not reflexively accepting AI completions, leading to better understanding of syntax and problem-solving patterns.
