How to Transfer a Subscription in Xero

Use this interactive demo to learn how to transfer a subscription in Xero.

It is very easy to transfer a subscription in Xero. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to do it in simple steps:

  1. On Xero's main dashboard, go to the top-left corner and click the 'Company' tab.
  2. Select 'Subscription and Billing' from the list of options.
  3. After that, click 'Manage Subscription'.
  4. Find the subscription you wish to transfer, then tap its corresponding 'More Options' button.
  5. Subsequently, click 'Request Transfer' to proceed.
  6. One by one, fill out the input fields with the required information, particularly the name and email address of the user to whom you'd intend to transfer the subscription.
  7. Finally, click 'Request Transfer to proceed. Once the request is accepted, the subscription transfer will be initiated instantly.

📌 Why this matters

Transferring a subscription lets you hand over billing responsibility when team members change roles or leave your organization. This prevents service interruptions that could lock you out of critical financial data during transitions.

Beyond the obvious administrative benefit, subscription transfers maintain your accounting workflow's continuity while ensuring the right person has control over payment methods and plan changes. You avoid the disruption of canceling and recreating accounts, which would require rebuilding user permissions and potentially lose historical data access.
