How to See the Deleted Jira Tickets

Use this interactive demo to learn how to recover deleted Jira ticket keys via the Audit Log.

Quick summary

Jira does not restore deleted tickets, but admins can use the Audit Log to find the keys of any deleted Jira issues. This four-step process requires Jira Admin access and takes less than a minute to complete.

Steps

  1. On the Jira home page, go to the top-right corner and click the Settings icon.
  2. Select System from the list of options under Jira Admin Settings.
  3. In the left-hand panel, click Audit Log under Troubleshooting and Support.
  4. Find the log entries labeled Deleted Jira Issue — the ticket keys of the deleted issues are displayed next to each entry.

📌 Why this matters

Accidentally deleted Jira tickets are a common pain point for development and project management teams, as Jira provides no native restore feature. The Jira Audit Log gives administrators a reliable way to retrieve the keys of deleted issues, enabling teams to reference lost work, audit changes, and maintain project accountability. This capability is critical for compliance-conscious teams who need a full record of issue lifecycle events. Knowing how to navigate Jira Admin Settings to access the Audit Log empowers admins to respond quickly to accidental deletions without escalating to Atlassian support.
