Use this interactive demo to learn how to disconnect and reset Salesforce Authenticator for any user.

Quick summary

Resetting the Salesforce Authenticator for a user requires an admin to navigate to Setup, locate the user via Quick Find, and disconnect the active authenticator app from their account. Once disconnected, the user can re-register a new authenticator device to restore multi-factor authentication access.

Steps

  1. Go to Setup using the menu on the top right of your Salesforce instance.
  2. Search for Users in the Quick Find box and select it from the results.
  3. Select the user whose Salesforce Authenticator you want to reset.
  4. Click Disconnect on whichever authenticator is currently active for that user.
  5. Confirm the reset is successful — the Disconnect button will change to Connect, indicating the authenticator has been unlinked.

📌 Why this matters

Resetting the Salesforce Authenticator is a critical admin task for maintaining secure access when users lose their device, switch phones, or get locked out of multi-factor authentication. Salesforce admins need a fast, reliable way to disconnect and re-register authenticator apps without disrupting user access or compromising org security. This process ensures that MFA enforcement remains intact while allowing affected users to quickly reconnect with a new device. Having a clear, step-by-step guide reduces support ticket volume and helps admins resolve authenticator lockouts in minutes.
