Use this interactive demo to learn how to remove question numbers in Microsoft Forms.

‍

‍

Microsoft Forms lets you disable question numbering in settings, creating a cleaner, less formal look for casual surveys or invitations. Follow these steps to set it up:

‍

  1. On your Microsoft 365 main dashboard, click the App launcher (grid icon) in the upper-left corner.
  2. From the app list, select Forms to open Microsoft Forms.
  3. Click New Form button to create a new one, or open an existing form.
  4. Click Settings to customize how your form behaves and who can respond.
  5. Under Options for responses, toggle Disable question number for respondents.
  6. Click Preview to see how your form looks to respondents before sharing it.
  7. Your question numbers now appear hidden.

📌 Why this matters

Removing question numbers transforms your form from a formal questionnaire into a conversational experience. This small change reduces psychological barriers that make people abandon forms halfway through - numbered questions create an implicit sense of obligation and test-like pressure that can deter casual responses.

Event RSVPs, feedback requests, and personal surveys feel more approachable without numbers. You'll also avoid the awkward situation where conditional logic creates gaps in numbering, making your form appear broken or unprofessional to respondents.
