Use this interactive demo to learn how to log and track a bug directly in your Jira board.

Quick summary

This demo shows how to raise a bug in Jira by creating a new issue, setting the work type to Bug, and assigning it with a due date — all from your Jira project board. Following these steps ensures bugs are tracked and assigned consistently within your team's workflow.

Steps

  1. In your Jira space, head over to the To Do column and click Create.
  2. Prepare the bug summary, then type it into the provided input field.
  3. Click the Work Type menu and select Bug from the given options.
  4. Click the Due Date menu and set the date based on your preference.
  5. Click the Assignee menu and choose the user to whom you wish to assign the bug.
  6. Review your input and click the Create button to submit.
  7. The bug is now raised and visible in your Jira space.

📌 Why this matters

Raising bugs in Jira ensures every software defect is formally tracked, prioritized, and assigned within your team's existing project workflow. Jira's bug tracking capabilities give development teams full visibility into open issues, due dates, and ownership — reducing the risk of defects slipping through the cracks. By standardizing how bugs are logged using work types and assignees, teams can resolve issues faster and maintain higher software quality. This process is essential for any agile or scrum team managing software development projects at scale.
