Use this interactive demo to learn how to share a Jira filter with your entire organization.

Quick summary

Making a Jira filter public lets your entire organization view or edit saved issue filters, replacing the default private access with organization-wide visibility in just a few clicks.

Steps

  1. On Jira's main home page, go to the left-hand panel and click Filters.
  2. Tap View All Filters to proceed.
  3. Find the filter you want to edit and click the More Actions button next to it.
  4. Select Edit from the list of options.
  5. Go to the Viewers section and click its corresponding drop-down menu.
  6. Choose an option based on the type and coverage of public access you wish to implement.
  7. Go to the Editors section and repeat the same steps if you wish to change editor access as well.
  8. Click Save to apply the changes.
  9. The selected filter in your Jira space will now be made public based on your input.

📌 Why this matters

Sharing Jira filters publicly eliminates the friction of manually distributing saved issue views across a team. When a filter is set to organization-wide visibility, every teammate can instantly access consistent, up-to-date project queries without needing to recreate them. This improves cross-team transparency and ensures everyone is working from the same filtered data set. For project managers and Jira administrators, public filters are a foundational step toward a standardized, collaborative issue-tracking workflow.
