Use this interactive demo to learn how to link and cross-reference pages inside Notion.

Quick summary

Notion's page linking feature lets you connect any page to another using the double bracket shortcut or the @ symbol, instantly creating navigable references. Every link you create automatically generates a backlink on the target page, making it easy to trace connections across your workspace.

Steps

  1. Go to the location in your Notion workspace where you want to link a page.
  2. Type [[ (two square brackets) to open the page search menu and begin finding the page you want to link.
  3. Click on the page from the search results to insert the link.
  4. Your first page link is now successfully created in Notion.
  5. Use the @ symbol to search for and link to dates, people, or additional pages — simply type @ to begin searching.
  6. Select the desired page from the @ search results to insert a second link.
  7. A second linked page is now added to your document.
  8. Hover over any link to see a preview pop-up with page details, then click the link to navigate to that page.
  9. Open a linked page and click Backlinks to see every page that references it — backlinks are generated automatically for every link you create.
  10. Click any backlink to jump directly to the exact location where the page was mentioned in the original document.
  11. You have now linked multiple pages and generated automatic backlinks across your Notion workspace.

📌 Why this matters

Linking pages in Notion is essential for building a well-connected, navigable knowledge base. By using the double-bracket shortcut or the @ symbol, teams can instantly cross-reference related content without manual copy-pasting or complex navigation. Automatic backlinks ensure that every connection is bidirectional, giving users full visibility into how ideas and documents relate to one another. This feature makes Notion a powerful tool for knowledge management, project documentation, and team collaboration.
