How to Find Your Competitors Using Ahrefs

Use this interactive demo to learn how to uncover your top organic competitors using Ahrefs.

Quick summary

Ahrefs lets you find competitors two ways: via Site Explorer's organic competitors report and via Keyword Explorer's traffic share by domain. Both methods surface domains competing for the same organic traffic, and results can be exported as a CSV for deeper analysis in Google Sheets or Excel.

Steps

  1. Enter your website URL in Site Explorer and hit the search button.
  2. Look for Organic competitors in the left navigation pane.
  3. Once the page opens, scroll down to find the Top competing domains section.
  4. Review the top competing domains listed by Ahrefs — these are sites creating content similar to yours and are worth noting.
  5. Export the competing domains list as a CSV file to analyze each domain individually in Google Sheets or Excel.
  6. Navigate to Keyword Explorer to find competitors based on your focus keywords.
  7. Enter your focus keywords in the search bar, separating multiple keywords with commas.
  8. Select By domain under the Traffic share report to see competitors grouped by domain.
  9. Review the competitor domains listed based on shared keyword traffic.
  10. Export this list as a CSV file and evaluate each domain by visiting their websites to confirm relevance.

📌 Why this matters

Identifying your true organic competitors is a foundational step in any SEO strategy, and Ahrefs makes it fast and data-driven. By combining the Site Explorer's organic competitors report with Keyword Explorer's traffic share by domain view, marketers and SEO professionals can pinpoint which domains are actively competing for the same search rankings. This dual approach ensures you capture both broad domain-level rivals and keyword-specific competitors, giving you a complete picture of your competitive landscape. Exportable CSV reports make it easy to share findings with your team and build targeted content or link-building strategies.
