How to Find Your Competitors Using Ahrefs
Here is a step by step tutorial to find competitors with Ahrefs:
- Log into Ahrefs account.
- Enter your your website URL in the Ahrefs Site Explorer and hit the search button.
- Look for Organic competitors on the left pane.
- Once the page opens, scroll down to find Top competing domains.
- These are your Top competing domains, as per Ahrefs.
- These are not absolute results. These are domains that create content similar to yours, so they are worth noting.
- Export it as a CSV file for later. So you can check the domains individually on Google Sheets.
- Now we can find competitors based on our focus keywords.
- Go to Keyword Explorer.
- Enter your focus keywords. Separate them by commas if you want to put more.
- Select By domain under Traffic share.
- These are you competitors based on organic keywords overlap.
- Export this into a CSV file. And analyse these domains by going through their website if they are relevant competitors.
Both the exported CSV files contains domains that gives a good idea on your competitors. All you need to do now is just check out their websites and strike off domains that don't make sense to be your competitor. Retain 5-10 most relevant domains as your main competitors in your space.
