How to File by Mail in TurboTax

Updated on:

  1. Head to "Tax home" on your TurboTax account.
  2. Navigate to the "2025 Taxes" and select "File".
  3. Once you are ready to file, tap "Continue".
  4. Choose and select which tax you want to mail by clicking "Change".
  5. TurboTax will ask how you want to file. Choose "File by mail".
  6. Now, hit "Save" to confirm the changes.

📌 Why this matters

Filing by mail gives you a physical paper trail and proof of submission that digital filing can't match. You might need this option if you're filing sensitive returns where you want complete control over document handling, or if you're dealing with complex tax situations that benefit from manual review. Mail filing also bypasses potential technical glitches during peak filing periods and ensures your return gets processed even if online systems experience downtime when deadlines approach.
