Use this interactive demo to learn how to export a Jira space as a CSV file in minutes.

Quick summary

Exporting a Jira project (now called a space) lets you download all work items into a portable format like CSV for reporting, migration, or backup. This step-by-step walkthrough covers every click from the Jira home page to a completed export.

Steps

  1. On Jira's main home page, head to the top navigation bar and click the search bar.
  2. Click 'View All Work Items' to proceed to the full issues list.
  3. Under Basic Search mode, tap the 'Space' menu to filter by project space.
  4. Find the space (formerly project) you want to export, then tick the checkbox beside it.
  5. Click the 'More Actions' button in the top-right corner of the screen.
  6. Tap 'Export' from the actions menu to proceed.
  7. Choose your preferred export format (e.g., CSV – all fields).
  8. The selected Jira project will be exported and a confirmation notification will appear.

📌 Why this matters

Exporting a Jira project gives teams a portable snapshot of all work items, making it essential for data migration, compliance reporting, and external stakeholder sharing. Since Atlassian rebranded projects as spaces, knowing the updated export workflow saves teams time and avoids confusion. The ability to export to CSV means project data can be opened in any spreadsheet or analytics tool without additional software. This process is critical for teams managing sprint retrospectives, audits, or cross-platform integrations.
