How to Downgrade TurboTax

Here’s how to downgrade TurboTax:

Open your TurboTax account and navigate to 'Switch Products' from the left menu.
Select 'Downgrade'.
Hit 'Downgrade to Free Edition'. You can only downgrade if you have not yet paid for the product or filed your return.

📌 Why this matters

You might discover that premium features you thought you'd need—like investment reporting or rental property deductions—don't actually apply to your tax situation after all. Rather than paying for capabilities you won't use, downgrading saves money while still handling your actual filing needs. Many taxpayers also switch mid-preparation when they realize their finances are simpler than expected, or when comparing final costs across different tax software options before committing to payment.
