Here’s a step by step guide on how to downgrade from TurboTax premium:

Start by opening your TurboTax account and clicking "Price preview" to see which product you're currently using.
You'll notice you're on the Premium product.
Head to the left-hand menu and click "Switch Products" to explore your options.
Now select "Downgrade" to move to a more basic product tier.
Click "Downgrade to Free Edition" to switch back—just make sure you haven't filed or paid yet.

You might discover that your tax situation is simpler than expected, making premium features unnecessary expenses. Downgrading saves you money while still completing your return accurately. Tax software companies often default users to higher-tier products through their interface design, banking on the assumption that you'll stick with whatever you initially selected.
