‍

It is very easy to create written skills in the Claude desktop. Here’s a short tutorial on how to do it:

‍

  1. On Claude's main dashboard, go to the left-side panel and tap your 'Profile' tab.
  2. Choose 'Settings' from the list of options.
  3. Following that, click the 'Capabilities' tab.
  4. Go to the Skills section, then tap 'Add' to proceed.
  5. Subsequently, select 'Write Skill Instructions' from the available options.
  6. Come up with a unique Skill Name and Description. Enter the details into their respective input fields.
  7. After that, write a detailed instruction related to the skill you want to create and type it into the next entry field.
  8. Once done, click 'Create' to save your new inputs.
  9. Finally, a new written skill will be created and added to your Claude account.

📌 Why this matters

Creating written skills transforms Claude into a personalized assistant that consistently follows your specific writing style, tone, and formatting preferences across all projects. Instead of repeatedly explaining your requirements in each conversation, you can encode detailed instructions once and activate them as needed.

This becomes especially powerful when you're managing multiple writing contexts - professional reports, creative content, technical documentation, or client communications - each requiring distinct approaches. Your custom skills ensure consistency and save significant time by eliminating the need to re-establish context and preferences for recurring writing tasks.
