Creating a group chat in Slack lets you send direct messages to multiple teammates at once without setting up a channel. Use the Direct Messages tab to add members, send your first message, and manage group settings like topic, members, and integrations.
Steps
- Click the '+' icon in the Direct Messages tab to start a new group conversation.
- Use the Add Members tab to search for and select the people you want to include in the group chat.
- Your group is created — type and send your first message to get the conversation started.
- To edit group details, click the members' names under the search bar to open group settings.
- In the group settings pop-up, configure About (topic), Members (edit the member list), Integrations (add email integrations), and Settings (visibility and member details).
- Alternatively, create a group via the '+' icon > Message option or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘+N.
