Use this interactive demo to learn how to build and publish a custom app in Salesforce Lightning.

Quick summary

This tutorial walks you through creating a custom Salesforce app using the Lightning App Builder, from setup to activation. You will learn how to design an app page, configure its layout, and assign it to specific user profiles so it is immediately available to your team.

Steps

  1. Go to Setup on the top right of the page.
  2. Search for Lightning App Builder in the Quick Find menu.
  3. Click on App Page to start creating a new app.
  4. Give a name for the app.
  5. Select a layout and hit Done.
  6. Select the medium to visualise your app.
  7. Design your app interface using the available tools.
  8. Drag and drop components such as tabs and navigation menus to build the layout.
  9. Click Save to create your app.
  10. Click Activate to make the app available to users.
  11. Assign the app to specific user profiles or permission sets.

📌 Why this matters

Creating a custom app in Salesforce Lightning App Builder allows admins and developers to deliver tailored user experiences without writing code. By building dedicated app pages and assigning them to specific user profiles or permission sets, teams can surface the exact data and tools each role needs — directly within Salesforce. This reduces navigation friction, improves CRM adoption, and ensures users spend less time searching and more time selling. A well-configured Salesforce Lightning app is a foundational step toward a more efficient, role-optimized Salesforce org.
