Use this interactive demo to learn how to set up a sprint retrospective directly in your Jira scrum board.

Quick summary

Creating a retrospective in Jira lets scrum teams automatically generate a Confluence-linked retrospective page when completing a sprint. This built-in workflow streamlines sprint reviews without leaving the Jira backlog.

Steps

  1. In your Jira scrum board, head to the top navigation bar and click Backlog.
  2. Find an active sprint and click the Complete Sprint button next to it.
  3. In the dialogue box, tick the checkbox beside Create a Retrospective For This Sprint.
  4. Click Complete Sprint to proceed.
  5. Open the menu and select the Confluence Space or items you wish to use.
  6. Choose your preferred type of retrospective.
  7. Click Create to finalise your selection.
  8. Your retrospective will now be created in your Jira scrum board.

📌 Why this matters

Creating a retrospective directly within Jira eliminates the need to manually set up a separate review session after each sprint. The built-in integration with Confluence allows scrum teams to auto-generate structured retrospective pages linked to completed sprints, saving setup time and keeping agile workflows in one place. This feature ensures that sprint learnings, action items, and team feedback are consistently captured and easily accessible. For teams practicing continuous improvement, the Jira retrospective workflow is a core tool for scaling agile processes efficiently.
