Quick summary
Cloning a defect in Jira lets teams quickly duplicate bug tickets with all relevant fields, saving time during sprint planning and regression testing. The built-in Clone action in Jira copies the issue summary, assignee, and reporter while letting you customize which fields to include.
Steps
- In your Jira project board, find and select the defect you want to clone — look for the bug icon to identify it easily.
- Click the Actions button in the top-right corner of the issue window.
- Select Clone from the dropdown list of options.
- Fill in the required clone fields one by one, including Summary, Assignee, and Reporter.
- Tick the checkboxes beside any additional fields you want to include in the cloned issue.
- Click the Clone button to confirm and create the duplicate issue.
- Verify the success — your defect is now cloned and visible in the Jira project board.
