Use this interactive demo to learn how to update a gadget filter on your Jira dashboard.

Quick summary

This tutorial shows how to change the filter on a Jira dashboard gadget by navigating the Edit mode and updating the Project or Saved Filter setting. In just a few clicks, teams can redirect any dashboard gadget to display data from a different filter without rebuilding the entire dashboard.

Steps

  1. In your Jira dashboard, head to the top-right corner and click 'Edit'.
  2. Find the gadget you want to update and click its 'More Actions' button.
  3. Tap 'Configure' to open the gadget settings.
  4. Click the field under 'Project or Saved Filter' and type the name of the filter you want to apply.
  5. Select the filter from the suggested results that appear.
  6. Tap 'Save' to apply the filter changes to the gadget.
  7. Click 'Done' to exit edit mode.
  8. The gadget filter is now updated and the dashboard will display the new filter's data.

📌 Why this matters

Keeping Jira dashboard gadgets pointed at the right filters ensures teams always see accurate, relevant project data without manually rebuilding reports. The ability to quickly change a dashboard filter directly from the gadget's Configure menu reduces administrative overhead and keeps sprint tracking, issue queues, and reporting up to date. For Jira administrators and project managers, this feature is essential for maintaining clean, actionable dashboards as team structures and project scopes evolve. It eliminates the need to create duplicate dashboards just to reflect a different saved filter.
