Changing the status of a task in ClickUp helps track the progress and stage of your work. Here's how to change the status of a task:

  1. Go to the 'Space' where the task is located.
  2. In the List view, locate the task you want to update. The current status will be displayed next to the task name.
  3. Click on the gear icon to open the 'Status settings'.
  4. From the statuses modal, select Use custom statuses.
  5. To the right of a status, click the ellipses.
  6. Select 'Rename', 'Change Color', or 'Delete Status'.
  7. Click 'Apply changes'.

Customizing task statuses transforms a generic workflow into one that mirrors your actual work process. Instead of forcing your team to think in terms of "To Do" and "Done," you can create statuses like "In Review," "Awaiting Client Feedback," or "Ready for Deployment" that reflect real bottlenecks and handoffs.
