How to Change Deposit Account in TurboTax

Use this interactive demo to learn how to change your deposit account in TurboTax.

Here’s how to change your deposit account in TurboTax:

Head to the "File" menu in your TurboTax account to get started.
Click "Revisit" next to "Step 2 Your refund/payment info" to update your deposit details.
Select "Direct deposit" to enter your new bank account information.
Enter your new back name, new routing number and account number in the text fields provided.
Hit "Continue" and your refund will now go to the updated account.

📌 Why this matters

Changing your deposit account ensures your refund lands in the right place, whether you've switched banks, closed an old account, or want funds in a specific account for budgeting purposes. Beyond the obvious convenience, this prevents the headache of waiting weeks for a returned refund to be reissued as a paper check. Banks sometimes close accounts unexpectedly due to inactivity or policy changes, and the IRS won't retry direct deposits to failed accounts, leaving you stuck in their slower manual processing queue.
