Use this interactive demo to learn how to move an object one layer forward in Google Slides.

Quick summary

The Bring Forward feature in Google Slides lets you control the layer order of overlapping objects on a slide. Use the Arrange menu to move any selected object one layer up without disrupting the rest of your slide layout.

Steps

  1. Click the object you want to move forward on your slide.
  2. In the top menu, click Arrange.
  3. Hover over Order to expand the submenu.
  4. Click Bring Forward from the Order submenu.
  5. Your selected object will move one layer forward in the stacking order.

📌 Why this matters

Controlling object layering in Google Slides is essential for creating polished, professional presentations where text, images, and shapes overlap correctly. The Bring Forward feature gives users precise control over stacking order without needing to reorganize all slide elements. This is especially useful for complex slide designs where multiple overlapping objects need to appear in a specific visual hierarchy. Mastering layer management in Google Slides helps teams produce cleaner, more visually consistent presentation decks faster.
