Use this interactive demo to learn how to create a new test cycle in Jira using Zephyr.

Quick summary

Adding a test cycle in Jira using the Zephyr plugin lets QA teams organize and track test runs within their existing project workflow. This step-by-step process covers everything from accessing the Zephyr menu to filling in cycle details and saving with Create and Edit.

Steps

  1. In your Jira space, head over to the top menu bar and click 'More'.
  2. Choose 'Zephyr' from the list of options.
  3. Click the 'Test Cycles' tab.
  4. Click 'New Test Cycle' to proceed.
  5. Enter a unique Name and Description into their respective input fields.
  6. Fill in the remaining details including Status, Release Version, Iteration, Owner, Start and End Date, and Folder.
  7. Click 'Create and Edit' to save the new test cycle.
  8. Your new test cycle will now appear in your Jira space via Zephyr.

📌 Why this matters

Creating test cycles in Jira with the Zephyr plugin gives QA and development teams a structured way to plan, execute, and track testing efforts directly inside their Jira project. Test cycles allow teams to group related test cases into organized runs with defined owners, dates, and release versions, making sprint-based regression testing far more manageable. By keeping test management inside Jira, teams eliminate context switching and maintain a single source of truth for both development and quality assurance workflows. This capability is essential for teams scaling their test coverage while maintaining visibility across the entire software delivery pipeline.
