Use this interactive demo to learn how to leverage the Input Data tool in Alteryx to import and prepare your data for analysis.

‍

It is very easy to use the Input Data tool in Alteryx. Here’s a short tutorial on how to do it in simple steps:

  1. Inside Alteryx's workflow designer, head over to the left-side panel and find 'Input Data'. Drag this tool onto the canvas for further configuration.
  2. After that, go to the right-hand panel to specify the dataset you wish to use. If you want to use the data in your Alteryx Data Storage, click 'Connect to Data'.
  3. On the one hand, click 'Upload Data' if you want to use data from your local storage.
  4. You may also use the data from your previous uploads. Simply browse the list under Datasets and select one.
  5. Finally, your data will be added to your Alteryx workflow using the Input Data tool.

📌 Why this matters

The Input Data tool serves as your workflow's foundation, connecting diverse data sources into a single analytical pipeline. You can seamlessly blend local files with cloud-stored datasets, creating reproducible workflows that automatically update when source data changes. This becomes particularly powerful when collaborating with teams—instead of emailing spreadsheets back and forth, everyone works from the same centralized data sources. Your workflows become living documents that adapt to new data, transforming one-time analyses into automated processes that scale with your business needs.
