How to Upgrade Qlik Sense Server

This tutorial shows how to upgrade an existing Qlik Sense Enterprise installation to a newer version while preserving your apps, data connections, and configuration.

Notes:

• Always back up your Qlik Sense repository and certificates before upgrading.
• You need administrator access to the Windows Server machine and the QMC.
• Refer to the Qlik upgrade notes for your target version to check for breaking changes before starting. 
• Log in to the Qlik Management Console (QMC) and notify active users of the upcoming maintenance window. 
• On the Windows Server machine, open Services and stop all Qlik Sense services manually, or use the Qlik Sense Service Dispatcher to stop them in the correct order.
  

1. Back up your Qlik Sense repository database by navigating to C:\ProgramData\Qlik\Sense\Repository\PostgreSQL and copying the folder to a safe location.
2. Download the latest Qlik Sense Enterprise update installer from the Qlik Customer Portal and run it as an administrator on the server.
3. When prompted, select Upgrade - the installer will detect your existing installation and carry forward your configuration and certificates automatically.
4. Accept the customer agreement, follow the remaining prompts, and allow the installer to complete - services will restart automatically once the upgrade finishes.
5. Once the upgrade is complete, open the Qlik Management Console (QMC) and log in to verify everything is working.
