Quick summary

This tutorial shows you how to create a Zap that uses Gmail as a trigger to automatically post messages in Basecamp whenever a new email is received. By connecting Gmail and Basecamp through Zapier, teams can eliminate manual copy-paste workflows and keep project communication centralized without switching apps.

Steps

  1. From your Zapier dashboard, select Zap to start building a new automation.
  2. Click on the Trigger field to select the trigger event for your Zap.
  3. Search for and select Gmail as your trigger app.
  4. Choose a trigger event such as New Email or New Attachment.
  5. Connect your Google account to authorize Gmail access.
  6. Add your mailbox and click Continue to proceed.
  7. Click Test trigger to send a test email and confirm Zapier can detect it.
  8. Search for and select Basecamp as your action app.
  9. Select an action event to define what happens in Basecamp when the trigger fires.
  10. Connect and authorize your Basecamp account.
  11. Customize the action details in Basecamp and click Continue.
  12. Click Test step to verify the Basecamp action executes correctly.
  13. Once the test is successful, click Publish to activate your Zap.

📌 Why this matters

Connecting Gmail to Basecamp via Zapier eliminates the need to manually forward emails or copy information between tools, saving teams significant time on repetitive communication tasks. This Gmail-to-Basecamp automation ensures that important email content is instantly surfaced as Basecamp messages, keeping project stakeholders informed without switching apps. For teams that rely on Basecamp for project management and Gmail for external communication, this Zap creates a seamless, no-code bridge between the two platforms. Setting up this workflow takes only minutes and runs automatically in the background, making it one of the most practical productivity automations available for remote and distributed teams.
