Use this interactive demo to learn how to specify the sheet name in your Alteryx output.

‍

It is very easy to specify the sheet name in Alteryx output. Here’s a short tutorial on how to do it in simple steps:

  1. Inside Alteryx's workflow designer, find and select the Output tool you want to edit.
  2. After that, go to the right-hand panel and tap 'Select Output Location'.
  3. Come up with a unique File Name and enter it into the provided input field.
  4. Subsequently, click the 'Format' menu and choose 'XLSX' from the list.
  5. Once done, click 'Next' to proceed.
  6. Go to the Sheet Name section, then type your preferred sheet name into the provided input field.
  7. Following that, click 'Confirm' to apply the changes.
  8. Finally, the sheet name will be specified in your Alteryx Output tool.

📌 Why this matters

Specifying custom sheet names transforms your Excel outputs from generic data dumps into organized, professional deliverables. Instead of defaulting to "Sheet1," you can create meaningful labels like "Q4_Sales" or "Regional_Performance" that immediately communicate content to stakeholders. This becomes particularly powerful when generating multiple outputs or building automated reporting workflows. Recipients can navigate your workbooks intuitively without opening each sheet to understand its purpose. When you're delivering analysis to executives or clients, these thoughtful details demonstrate attention to professional presentation standards.
