- Open Cisco Packet Tracer.
- In the device selection box at the bottom of the window, add a switch to the workspace.
- Add another device, such as a PC, to the workspace.
- In the lower-left toolbar, click Connections, then select Copper Straight-Through.
- Connect the PC to the switch, then wait for the port to turn green.
- Click the switch in the workspace, then open the CLI tab.
- In the CLI tab, type the following commands in order, pressing Enter after each line, to assign an IP address to VLAN 1, enable the interface, exit interface configuration mode, and set the default gateway:
