Use this interactive demo to learn how to remove the top rows in Alteryx.

‍

It is very easy to remove the top rows in Alteryx. Here’s a short tutorial on how to do it in simple steps:

  1. Inside Alteryx's workflow designer, head over to the left-side panel and find 'Sample'. Drag this tool onto the canvas and connect it to the Input Data tool or other sources.
  2. After that, go to the right-side panel and tick the radio button beside 'Skip First Rows'.
  3. Subsequently, set the value of N to '1'. You may also indicate other values according to your preference.
  4. Finally, the top row in your Alteryx workflow will be removed.

📌 Why this matters

Removing top rows becomes essential when working with datasets that include headers, metadata, or summary information above your actual data. You'll frequently encounter CSV files with company logos, report titles, or column descriptions occupying the first few rows. Beyond cleaning messy imports, this technique proves invaluable for data preparation workflows where you need consistent structure across multiple files. When automating processes that handle various data sources, eliminating inconsistent header rows ensures your downstream analysis tools receive uniform, properly formatted datasets every time.
