Use this interactive demo to learn how to remove the alt text from an image in PowerPoint.

‍

It is very easy to remove the alt text from an image in PowerPoint. Here’s a short tutorial on how to do it in simple steps:

  1. Inside the slide canvas of your PowerPoint presentation, find the image you want to edit and then right-click on it.
  2. Choose 'Alt Text' from the list of options.
  3. After that, go to the right-hand panel and delete the default alt text in the input field.
  4. Finally, the alt text from the selected image in your PowerPoint presentation will be removed.

📌 Why this matters

Removing alt text gives you control over how screen readers interact with your presentation. While alt text helps accessibility, sometimes images are purely decorative or redundant with your spoken content, making the description unnecessary noise for visually impaired audiences. You might also need to clear existing alt text that's inaccurate or automatically generated before adding your own custom description. This ensures screen readers either skip the image entirely or read only the alt text you specifically craft, creating a cleaner, more intentional experience for all listeners.
