Use this interactive demo to learn how to embed a Power BI report directly into SharePoint Online.

Quick summary

Publishing a Power BI report to SharePoint lets teams access live dashboards directly inside their SharePoint sites without leaving Microsoft 365. This process uses the built-in Embed report option to generate a SharePoint Online link that can be pasted into any SharePoint page as a web part.

Steps

  1. Open your Power BI report that you want to publish to SharePoint, and make sure it is saved and ready to share.
  2. Click on the File menu in the top-left corner to access publishing options for your report.
  3. Locate the Embed report option in the menu — this is where you will find ways to share your report with others.
  4. Select the SharePoint Online option from the embed submenu.
  5. Copy the generated embed code or link that Power BI provides for SharePoint integration.
  6. Click Close, navigate to your SharePoint site, edit the target page, paste the embed code into a web part, and save the page.

📌 Why this matters

Embedding Power BI reports directly into SharePoint Online gives teams instant access to live, interactive dashboards inside the tools they already use every day. This integration eliminates the need to switch between apps, keeping data-driven decisions closer to where work happens. For organizations running Microsoft 365, connecting Power BI to SharePoint reduces friction in reporting workflows and ensures stakeholders always view up-to-date data. It is a critical skill for BI developers and SharePoint admins looking to maximize the value of their Microsoft data stack.
