How to Post YouTube Shorts

Use this interactive demo to learn how to post your YouTube shorts.
  1. Record or export your video in vertical format (9:16 aspect ratio) and make sure the runtime is 60 seconds or under before uploading.
  2. Go to studio.youtube.com and click Create in the top-right corner, then select Upload videos.
  3. Upload your vertical video file. YouTube will automatically detect it as a Short based on the aspect ratio and duration.
  4. Add a title of 100 characters or fewer. Include relevant keywords. Add a description and any hashtags you want to associate with the Short.
  5. Under Audience, select No, it's not made for kids, if the content is business-facing.
  6. Set visibility to Public, Unlisted, or Private, then click Publish (or Schedule if setting a future date).

YouTube Shorts are one of the fastest ways to reach new audiences on the platform - the Shorts feed surfaces content to users who have never seen your channel before, functioning more like a discovery engine than a subscription feed. For companies, publishing short-form vertical content alongside standard videos increases channel visibility without requiring a separate platform or content strategy. Getting the format right before uploading - correct aspect ratio, correct duration - is the difference between a video that gets classified as a Short and one that does not.
