Use this interactive demo to learn how to compare post reach and engagement metrics in Buffer Analytics.

Quick summary

Buffer's Analyze tool lets you measure reach versus engagement for any connected social channel by switching between Metrics Insights views. To calculate the engagement rate relative to reach, divide total Page & Post Engagements by total Post Reach and multiply by 100.

Steps

  1. Go to the top menu bar and click Analyze.
  2. Select the channel (e.g., Facebook) whose data you want to measure.
  3. Find the Metrics Insights section and open its drop-down menu.
  4. Choose Page & Post Engagements from the list of options.
  5. Hover your cursor over the relevant bar in the graph and record the value as your engagement rate.
  6. Open the drop-down menu again to switch metrics.
  7. Select Post Reach from the available choices.
  8. Hover over the corresponding bar in the graph and record the value as your reach.
  9. Divide the total engagement rate by the total reach, then multiply by 100 to get your reach versus engagement measurement.

📌 Why this matters

Understanding the ratio of reach to engagement is essential for evaluating how effectively your social content drives audience interaction. Buffer's Analyze tool makes it simple to pull Post Reach and Page & Post Engagements data side by side, so social media managers can calculate a meaningful engagement rate without exporting raw data. This built-in Metrics Insights feature helps teams identify which posts resonate most and allocate content budget to the channels delivering real results. For any business measuring social media ROI, comparing reach versus engagement in Buffer provides the actionable performance data needed to refine strategy and grow an active audience.
