Use this interactive demo to learn how to link records between tables in Airtable.

Quick summary

Linking records in Airtable connects related data across tables, enabling teams to build relational databases without code. This demo walks through the exact steps to link records using the expand task and Add task options inside an Airtable view.

Steps

  1. Expand a task by clicking the 'Expand task' button to open the full record detail view.
  2. Click the 'Add task' button inside the expanded record to initiate the record linking process.
  3. Choose the records you want to link from the list of available records in the linked record selector.
  4. To link multiple records, repeat the same 'Add task' option for each additional record you want to connect.
  5. Click 'Close' to exit the form and save your linked records.
  6. Review the linked records now displayed directly within the task to confirm the record relationships are set correctly.

📌 Why this matters

Linking records in Airtable is a foundational skill for building relational databases that connect projects, tasks, contacts, and assets across multiple tables. Instead of duplicating data, linked records create live relationships that update automatically, keeping every team member working from a single source of truth. This capability makes Airtable a powerful alternative to traditional spreadsheets for teams managing complex workflows. Mastering record linking unlocks Airtable's full relational database potential, enabling smarter reporting, filtering, and cross-table automation.
