Use this interactive demo to learn how to integrate Qlik with SQL Server.

This tutorial shows how to connect Qlik Sense to a Microsoft SQL Server database using the Data Load Editor to query and load data for analysis.

Notes:

  • You need valid SQL Server credentials, including server name, database name, username, and password.
  • Windows Authentication is supported as an alternative to SQL Server Authentication, depending on your network setup.
  1. Log in and open your Qlik Sense app, and click Data load editor from the top menu.
  2. Click Create new connection in the Data connections panel on the right.
  3. Select Microsoft SQL Server from the list of available database connectors.
  4. Enter your Microsoft SQL Server name, database name, and authentication details, then click Test Connection to verify.
  5. Click Create to store the connection. You can now access the saved connection, browse the available tables, and select the ones you want to load into your app.

📌 Why this matters

SQL Server is a core database platform for many enterprise environments, powering everything from ERP systems to internal reporting tools. Connecting it directly to Qlik Sense means your dashboards can pull live data from the systems your business already runs on. This removes the need to schedule manual exports or maintain separate data files for analysis. For teams working with large volumes of transactional or operational data, a direct SQL Server connection makes Qlik Sense significantly more powerful and reliable as a reporting layer.
